Hardpoints

I kind of wish the ships had a certain amount of "hard points" that we could assign to either be equipment slots, weapon slots or missile slots. The gunship would have the most, and the scout would have the least. These would be in addition to the standard slots, but there would be less of the standard slots by default.

I think this would add a bit more depth to the amount of builds you can do, while still allowing the heavy ship to have more slots than the lighter ships, for example.

Hardpoints would be configured in the hangar before a run

    So this would be a set of bonus slots that the player could freely distribute before a run? We could do that but that would further bring the ships into line. We want more differences.

    That makes sense. This would definitely remove some of the differences, however IMO the potential increase in diversity of builds is worth the tradeoff.
