Coop / Multiplayer

I know, this has been asked in another thread, but stayed unanswered. I wish there would be a two-player coop / multiplayer like in Isaac or Neon Chrome, where two pilots fly their own ship from sector to sector and share their collected credits/ressources.

    Hey guys,

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere but I can't find any info on Multiplayer??

    Will it have it?
If so, any chance of a bit of detail? will it be a single universe, or will it be like freelancer?....Or something else?

    Ta!

I went back and checked myself. No multiplayer is mentioned anywhere. Therefore, there will be no multiplayer.
  • It might be single player only as of now, but I do seriously hope they plan to work on a multiplayer feature, and the gameplay experience hopefully being close to Freelancer's multiplayer experience. To me no other game or genre provides intense multiplayer dogfights like Freelancer:

They might be able to do it as a DLC, I suppose. Those do tend towards the "suck" end of the spectrum though -- it's best when it's baked in from the beginning.

I don't think Multiplayer is needed. I do believe they said this is a Single Player game only which makes sense for it's scale. With that being said though maybe a co-op option as a compromise?

I realize there is another thread open about multiplay below, and realize in the current plans there are no plans to currently make a multiplayer environment. However - lets say we warp into a universe where there is multiplayer (hah, see what i did there?....sorry)

What would you want to see in that multiplayer? Some examples:

    Arena (2v2, 3v3, 5v5, etc)
    large scale wars (Battlegrounds)
    Clan wars
    Capital ship protection

    This list goes on..

I start this thread purely for the conversation, and if the devs aren't already considering PVP options, or ideas, that this list or discussion will give them some good ideas.

I apologize that this is my first post. and if its a duplicate of another one I didn't see. I'm really excited to see this game take off and see where it goes.

I think the multiplayer (if there even is the possibility) should focus on a Co-oP like gameplay (maybe with LAN support?) ... there are way to less games with a co-op ... and it's way easier to realize then a big space fights with 20 players ^^ (you would need new maps and balancing etc.)

While space co op sounds good, i dont see it being very fun in this type of game as you would die and i would keep playing.
Unless i was commanding the fleet chasing you, and could pilot drones to 1 vs 1 a bit. While not flying i could maneuver blockades, choke points, or collect resources left behind by the player to strengthen my fleet.

LAN support is for sure a cool idea, co-op is attractive as well - i do see Shwarts point though, this would have to be a "if one dies, the event is over" kind of situation, so if one dies the event fails entirely. Avoiding the whole one person waiting for the other to finish the event.

Or escort co-op missions, something like that. Same kind of rules. But this really only fits the LAN aspect, which doesn't make it a bad thing, just wouldn't really want to do this with people i don't know - I can see lots of rage in this situation.

No Coop could work, what would happen is that if a player died they could be revived at a station, but would be at the same state they were the level they died so while their friend got materials and rewards they have nothing to their name but what they had when they died. It would be fine imo.

Honestly, I want Everspace to be single-player only.
THAT BEING SAID, there could be some unique ways other players could interact with one another.

Depending on how the content is generated, it could be possible to make some of the allies or enemies in the game loadouts of another's game data. So, if I'm flying around as Giraffasaur with a super custom Cloaking Missile loadout, you could come across a pirate called Giraffasaur with a custom Cloaking Missile loadout on their ship.

It would be like Spore generating data from other people's content in everyone's personal game.

If you have friends online through Steam, it's more likely you'll encounter their game data than just random Joe Smith. So there could be some "data sharing" between friends. "Oh man, you totally just blew me out of the sky!" "Oh yeah? Well you just helped me save a trade convoy from extinction! What the heck type of weapons are you using, anyway?"

Other than that, multiplayer areas and challenges sound more like they'd take away from the roguelike experience, which is the core of the game itself.

Definitely not in this installment. It simply is too much work for a small team like us. Also, there are too many multiplayer space games out or in the making already. Last but not least, we focus on a kick--BEEP- single player experience with a captivating story which in many cases won't work in a multiplayer environment. Hope that makes sense?

My brother see me playing Everspace and would like to join my game to have fun with me :p Unfortunately, it's not possible :)

I really like all games that proposes the main campaign in coop like Divinity Original Sin, Baldur's Gate, Saints Row, Doom (1 and 2), Unreal (1) and so on. Unfortunately, there are less and less similar games and most of coop games are MMORPG but they don't provide the same fun :(

So this game has been the best, but there are times where I can't help but feel lonely disreguarding my drones.

So I was wondering, do the devs have any plans on implementing a co-op mode. I see a lot of possibilities with something like this.

The only kind of multiplayer I would want for Everspace is a mode where you get hunted by another player instead of interceptors. The hunter starts with better gear, but the hunted gets a head start. Or a mode where both players start at the opposite side of the galaxy and must make their way towards the center, where they meet for a showdown. I'm only talking 2 players cause I think Everspace is meant to be played on your own, all odds against you, not knowing what lies in front of you, afraid of what's behind you etc. etc. ...

I disagree Micheal! There are NO coop space games out of this type!
Star Citizen removed drop-in coop play of their campaign entirely and has stated it will NOT come back!
DU, ED, NMS have no such modes.

Everspace could easily dominate a simple 2 vs AI multiplayer. It would be really fun! Many of us have talked about it since Alpha!

I believe your team could do it! Have the host machine spawn everything & update the client upon reaching the system. It would take awhile in Unreal Engine 4 SDK to flag things "Replicate to Network", but it wouldn't take a long time to do!
UE4 has steam support for matching players.

After the game comes out. PLEASE let your talented team look at just a basic 2 person match!!!!!!!!!
Love you! Thanks for the support!!!

    @Goloith would love it too!

I think even a "turn-based" multiplayer could be cool: players could take turns, with a separate perk system. Objectives could vary on these (shorter) runs, like collecting most cash, taking out most ennemies, unless of course you beat the game. I could imagine this being fun, especially as two very different playstiles could be confronted. Maybe implementing shorter runs would be challenging, but no fundamental changes have to be made (only two separate perk systems). This mode would be more casual (the idea is inspired by two youtubers playing spellunky taking turns, which seemed fun as it's also a proceduraly generated game where random stuff happens), maybe more in the everspace spirit than a real multiplayer.
That's just an opinion, multiplayer could also be implemented in a more complex (masbe the teased hardcore mode) game mode, wher multiple players would need to manage a ship, with perhaps steerable turrets, a complex hacking and drone controll, and so on (you get the point).

    Greetings,
    Rattiputz

I would LOVE a co-op options! Or some kind of livestream interaction would be cool!

    Randomly send Interceptors
    Random Loot
    Random critical state

In the realm of multiplayer, the developers have considered the sharing of "game seeds" (meaning specific generated runs) with friends to challenge each other to complete the same generated run against each other. Both you and your friend would still be playing single player, but against the exact same odds.

This concept is not guaranteed, though.

For that to happen there need to be much more obtainable resources otherwise 1 would get all leaving the other unable to go further

Maybe not multiplayer but local Co-Op would be nice and much easier to implement than a full on multiplayer. no ?
  • MaximilienMaximilien Posts: 4Common Backer ES1, Customer
Everything is in the title , i wanted to know , if it could be avaiable , to do a run with a friend , i would find this really interesting , like we share the ressources we collecte. when someone die , he is just disable until our friend come with MANY ressources to repare our ship (or something like it , or may be just our friends die) . more enemy spawn , frendly fire to stay on realistic game (or just too trooll or friend ) .

    what do you thinks ?
  • GiraffasaurGiraffasaur Posts: 1,098Moderator, Space Cat
Hey @Maximilien , Everspace is designed to be a strong single-player experience. Creating a similar game with multiplayer would take a considerable amount of extra time to implement (not to mention funding). Instead, the folks at Rockfish Games are creating the game as it is intended and as they promised from the Kickstarter.

After these goals have been reached, new opportunities can be explored to add to the game. If successful enough, Everspace could have some really nice DLC in it's future.
